Suzanne Shield-Polk works in the media of clay, encaustic wax, mixed media, and electronic media. Suzanne grew up in central Texas, where she first learned ceramics at Southwest Texas State University from Jaques Bakke, a student of the venerable teacher and studio potter, Warren Mackensie. She worked as a production potter in San Marcos, then, went on to complete a B. F. A. at the University of Texas, Austin. After graduation, she relocated to California, where she embarked on a career in set decorating and art direction for the motion picture industry. She later left the film industry to study ceramics, teach art, and focus on her work as a visual artist combining ceramics, video, and installation art. Suzanne completed her M.F.A. in Ceramics, Sculpture, and Video at California State University, Northridge. Suzannes work has been exhibited in Houston, statewide, and nationally. Suzanne is Art Department Chair and head of the ceramics area at Lone Star College-CyFair.
