About the Artist
I work in the media of clay, encaustic wax, mixed media, and electronic media.
Originally a painter, my first endeavors with ceramics began at Southwest Texas State University with Jaques Bakke, a student of the venerable teacher and studio potter, Warren Mackensie.
I worked as a production potter in San Marcos, then, went on to complete a BFA at the University of Texas, Austin. After graduation, I relocated to California, where I embarked on a career in set decorating and art direction for the motion picture industry. I later left the film industry to study ceramics, teach art, and focus on my work as a visual artist combining ceramics, video, and installation art. I completed an M.F.A. in Ceramics, Sculpture, and Video at California State University, Northridge.
My work has been exhibited across Texas and nationally. After many years as head of the ceramics area at the Lone Star College system CyFair campus, I have shifted my focus to my studio practice.
Still an educator, I now offer workshops in Fast Fire Mid-range Temperature Charcoal Infusion Firing, Blackware firing, Encaustic Wax technique, Throwing, Hand-Building, Speed-coiling, and other art making techniques.
